The analysis of the predicate in Russian and Bulgarian scientific texts shows that scientific style has specific grammatical peculiarities. A convergence tendency is noticeable cross-linguistically: in both languages nominative character predominates over verbal in the predictate and copular verbs exhibit some formal-grammatical restrictions. Among the differences are the high density of the zero copula in Russian, the lower ‘verbalness’ of the Russian scientific text, and the higher universality of the verb be in Bulgarian
