Acta Baltico-Slavica is a journal publishing research on the multi-faceted interactions of Baltic and Slavic peoples and ethnic groups today as well as in the past. Papers published in the journal come from many disciplines, such as archaeology, history, ethnography, ethnology, and synchronic and diachronic linguistics. Some Baltic and Slavic ethnic groups, i.e. Lithuanians, Latvians, Baltic Prussians, Belarusians, Poles and Russians have come into frequent contact due to the fact that they were part of the same states, namely The Grand Duchy of Lithuania, subsequently The Polish‑Lithuanian Commonwealth and finally The Russian Empire. The territorial and political closeness created conditions favourable for the languages and cultures of the area to interact, which gave rise to the Balto-Slavic language community.
